SCLRC Board of Trustees announce the retirement of Executive Director Deacon Dallas Jolliff Shealy
After 20 years of leadership and faithful service, the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers Board of Trustees announces the retirement of Executive Director Deacon Dallas Jolliff Shealy, effective March 31, 2026. Under her leadership, the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers has expanded and strengthened its ministry of hospitality at Camp Kinard and Coastal Retreat through major capital improvements, enhanced donor relationships, and cultivating a vision for the future and refined mission of “providing holy spaces for God to change lives.”
“Deacon Dallas Shealy has been a pivotal leader in the South Carolina Lutheran Church her whole ministry,” shared Rev. David Coffman, Chair of the SCLRC Board of Trustees,
“and we are grateful to have been able to share in partnership with her at SCLRC. I remember serving on the search committee to call her 20 years ago and am grateful for her friendship, devotion to God, her gifts of stewardship, her insight and what she has done for this ministry of hospitality that has meant the world to me throughout my life.”
Dallas received her call to the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers in March 2005 after serving at Newberry College as Director of Alumni & Director of Development. Shortly after her arrival, Dallas collaborated with key stakeholders to produce an enhanced ministry identity through an organizational name change from “Lutheran Conference and Retreat Center” to “South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers.”
Dallas’ gifts and leadership helped to foster-in a sustained period of forward progress and exponential growth through the oversight of multi-million dollar fundraising campaigns. With her guidance, major site enhancements were funded and completed at Camp Kinard and Coastal Retreat, continuing to reinforce SCLRC’s mission.
Dallas’ guidance has also helped plant seeds for future growth at Camp Kinard through the Building+Renewing+Believing: Holy Spaces Campaign and its goal of building a new, multi-purpose chapel. Her leadership has been instrumental in identifying key supporters and opportunities for partnerships to help shape SCLRC’s dream of building a chapel into a reality.
Dallas’ life-long dedication to ministry can also be observed within the larger expressions of the church through involvement on various SC Synod (ELCA) committees, the board of Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, as well as the ELCA’s Commission for a Renewed Lutheran Church. Additionally, Dallas’ passion for child advocacy has been reflected through her generous service on the South Carolina Foster Care Review Board. Finally, her two decades of service to this ministry has most notably had an immeasurable impact on her colleagues and those working alongside her each day. The Board of Trustees would like to deeply thank Dallas for her commitment to the leadership of the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers.
Details about an upcoming celebration of Dallas’ retirement and many years of leadership for the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers will be shared as they become available.
The SCLRC Board of Trustees has established a timeline for filling the Executive Director role and is working to create a full job description and posting. More information about the position will be shared on the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers’ website (www.sclrc.com) in the coming weeks.
