Coastal Retreat partners with LENS Foundation to support local law enforcement

The Law Enforcement Neighborhood Support (LENS) Foundation has launched a new Affordable Housing Program for first responders, providing practical housing support to members of the public safety community at several stages of their housing journey.
IOP Mayor Phillip Pounds said: “This is another great benefit LENS is bringing to our staff to fill a need, and more importantly, provide another tool for personnel retention and recruitment for these critical roles. I believe this program is unique to other municipalities, and we are so fortunate to have it.”
Stop-gap housing provides temporary, transitional housing for first responders with an immediate short term need. For stays of fewer than two weeks, LENS IOP works with the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Center (SCLRC) on Palm Boulevard in Isle of Palms to determine availability and coordinate reservations.
Lori Bode, executive director of SCLRC commented: “First responders give so much to our communities, often being there for others in moments when they are needed most. Our retreat centers exist to provide places of welcome, rest and renewal and this partnership with LENS IOP gives us an opportunity to extend that mission in a very practical way. We are honored to make the Coastal Retreat Center available as temporary housing for first responders and to play a small part in supporting those who serve the Isle of Palms community every day.” READ FULL ARTICLE →
