Updates from Camp Kinard & Coastal Retreat
SCLRC eNews – July 2025
Over $1 Million raised for Building+Renewing+Believing: Holy Spaces Campaign
It is with great excitement that the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers staff and Board of Trustees announce the Building+Renewing+Believing: Holy Spaces Capital Campaign has officially crossed the $1 Million milestone in gifts and pledges received!
Thanks to YOU and the generosity of many other individuals, ministry is expanding each day at Camp Kinard. Your support has enabled Camp Kinard’s Phoebe Singley Callahan Pool to provided cooling waters to hundreds of individuals attending programs this summer.
Because of YOU, we are getting closer and closer to constructing a brand new, multi-use Chapel overlooking the lakes.
“Not only have we seen an incredible display of generosity from our donors, but they’ve shared with us over and over how excited they are for this next chapter in Camp Kinard’s ministry,” shared SCLRC Executive Director Dallas Shealy. “While we have not yet crossed the finish line, we give thanks to God for the many gifts and pledges already received towards the campaign goal of $2.75 million. We eagerly await the day we can dedicate the new chapel as an accessible and holy space where people will worship and connect with God and each other!”

Camp Kinard gets new tractor through #MidlandsGives
Last month, Camp Kinard Resident Director Nevin Rodgers was excited to see a brand new tractor arrive on site! This newest asset at camp was funded through the generous support of SCLRC’s Midlands Gives donors.
Thank you to everyone who donated and helped spread the word about this special project! More photos →
Summer Updates – Camp Kinard & Coastal Retreat
This summer at Coastal Retreat has been filled with church groups, family reunions, and a number of other folks who have come together here on the Isle of Palms for times of relaxation and fellowship.
A few highlights from over the past few weeks include a special first communion at Coastal Retreat, three baptisms in the ocean, and countless evenings filled with laughter and memories being made. We’re thankful to be able to offer this holy space where God continues to change lives!

Groups have been busy coming and going here at Camp Kinard as well! It’s been a joy to welcome returning campers and counselors, as well as introducing new folks to the joy of camp!
Recently, Bishop Fabre of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston, spoke and celebrated evening Mass with teenagers. One hundred youth from around the diocese were in attendance at the High School Christian Leadership Institute camp program earlier this month. “It’s moments like these that remind us of the love of Christ shaping these young hearts!”
Thank you to our July groups!
