The South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers’ staff and Board of Trustees are grateful to announce a new partnership with Walter P. Rawl & Sons, Inc., and their pledge of support for the Building+Renewing+Believing: Holy Spaces Campaign.

As a partner in ministry, WP Rawl is helping to usher in the next chapter of Camp Kinard’s ministry as SCLRC seeks to build a new Multi-

use Chapel – a holy and accessible space for individuals to gather, worship, and create life-long memories.

Susan Clifton, WP Rawl’s Vice President of Finance & Accounting spoke to those gathered at the recent “Business After Hours” event and highlighted the shared vision for Camp Kinard’s ministry through the addition of a new chapel. “At WP Rawl, we have four core values,” shared Susan, “and the first one is stewardship. That’s what this is about; stewarding what the Lord has given us…This [partnership] is a way for our company and group of owners to give back to the community to honor our legacy that was started by our grandparents in 1925. The Lord gave us [all we have] and what a way to celebrate that in His creation!”

“I am humbled to share that the family of WP Rawl has stepped forward as strong partners in this vision.” shared SCLRC Executive Director Dallas Shealy. “Their impact on our community reaches far beyond collards and fresh produce — they provide healthy food for our tables, meaningful jobs for our neighbors, and they make our landscape more beautiful with those fields of gorgeous greens. Their mission says it best: Growing fresh vegetables, our team, and our business — all for the Glory of God. Their mission aligns so beautifully with ours, to provide holy spaces for God to change lives. We are profoundly grateful for their leadership and their commitment to both this community and to Camp Kinard.”

Since launching the campaign, SCLRC has raised over $1.5 million of $2.75 million goal. Through this fundraising initiative, Camp Kinard has already been able to complete and fully fund the Phoebe Singley Callahan Swimming Pool, which was officially dedicated in February 2024.

WP Rawl is a family run business headquartered in Gilbert, SC, that operates on the core values of “stewardship, safety, team, and grit.” Since 1925, they have been a leading grower, processor, and shipper of leafy greens and specialty vegetables while providing high-quality fruits and vegetables to the Midlands and beyond.
